Features and Functions

Pool is a place where creative content makers can upload, download and remix.

You can ‘Contribute’ to a project

The features and functions of Pool have been carefully modelled after other popular social networking sites including Facebook, Tumblr, and Flickr.

There is a prominent ‘Tagging’ feature in Pool, mostly for attribution and linking back to the original work and maker.

Ideally, they want 2 types of tagging:

1. by the author &

2. by the people who view the work

– Link to ‘parent’ work; reference to original work – footnoting

You can have ‘Favourite’ works.

You can ‘comment’ on content and join discussions on forums

Subscribe to different groups and join different projects.

There is an activity stream that allows you to track your footsteps as you explore Pool.

Pool was developed with the open source software Drupal, enabling the Pool community to be a part of developing the web platform itself.

There are at present still some minor glitches here and there with the interface and design of the site, something the Pool team constantly works hard to try to fix.

The first beta version of Pool was released in 2008; they relaunched a few years later with an improved version of the platform, and are anticipating the next upgrade hopefully sometime in the near future.
