What is Pool?

ABC Pool Explained under 5 mins by Pool developer, John Jacobs (click here for more soundbytes):

Pool started off as an experiment and still is  = research in action

The idea was conceived in 2002, with citizen journalism/”indie media” in mind.

It was during a time when the government was cutting back on funding for the arts.

Pool enables artists to have their own community platform.

It also explores new creative interactions between public broadcasters and the public, while building “communities of interest” across a myriad of genres, especially animation, art, video, audio, photography, film, music, and sound.

It is essentially the merging of the broadcaster and the public creative community.

Pool is curated as well as moderated as an ABC publishing platform, which makes it a test bed/ role model for new multi platform community-based production models everywhere.
Pool is a platform for conversation, a place where you can learn to be social with your media and the media community.
